Polyethylene
for the distribution of natural gas was homologated in Italy with Ministerial Order
dated 24/11/1984; it has been used all over Europe for the last 25 years with highly
satisfactory results. The ease of use, reliability through time and next to no maintenance
problems, induced the major European gas companies to choose PE pipes to build big
natural gas systems.
The recent publication of the European Standard EN 1555 and the consequently
introduction of that in all the member states (the Italian UNI EN 1555 was published
at the end of 2004) has simplified the range of different standard related to the
transport of gas, promoting a better diffusion of our products, first of all those
ones made of PE100. In Italy, although the Ministerial Order 11/99 introduced
important modifications against the past by foreseeing the use of raw materials
belonging to class PE80 or higher and by increasing the limit for pressure to 5
bar, the use of PE100 to convey gas hasn't actually taken off on economic grounds
and will most probably become a standard only when higher operating pressures (7
bar) will be admitted, as they are in North-European countries.
CHARACTERISTICS
Gas pipes are identified by a yellow marking, as a rule they bear a series of co-extruded
indelible yellow stripes to acertain their use. The main advantages granted by EUROTUBI
pipes in the gas field are:
|
-
|
safety of the pipeline thanks to the pipe characteristics and the reliability of
junction systems;
|
|
-
|
ease, reliability, cost efficiency of digging and laying operations;
|
|
-
|
high resistance to stress cracking;
|
|
-
|
immunity to corrosion phenomena with subsequent great economic advantages thanks
to the absence of cathode protection.
