Due to the absence of corrosion and the subsequent reliability and consistency of
their performance through time, EUROTUBI pipes are often used for fire systems.
A good choice in this field are pipes manufactured with PE 100 which match jointing
and laying ease with a favourable ratio of pressure to thickness, guaranteeing the
high flow rates required in such applications.
As to regulations, the publication, in 2001, of UNI 10910 standard in the place
of the old UNI 7611 actually left the firefighting application uncovered since the
norm, aligned with the prEN 12201 European standard project, defined the characteristics
of polyethylene pipes for conveying drinkable water only. To get round this difficulty,
UNIPLAST issued the standard UNI 10953 regulating the manufacture of polyethylene
pipes for the conveyance of industrial fluids. As far as dimensions or performance
were concerned the latter referred to UNI 10910. Later both these norms were replaced:
during 2004 UNI 10910 by UNI EN 12201, and during 2005 UNI 10953 by UNI EN ISO 15494.
